Autumn in the Brecon Beacons (1 day photographic workshop)

Saturday October 30th 2010
4 places remaining

Sunday October 31st 2010

Autumn in the Brecons is a wonderful place to be, surrounded by the wild beauty of hills, valleys, streams and waterfalls. And as if this wasn’t enough to whet the appetite of any landscape photographer, imagine this all tinged with the vibrant colours of autumn. This will be a one day workshop, meeting at 9am in Brecon then heading off in the minibus for the rest of the day. We will visit 4 or 5 locations and photograph until dusk at approximately 6.30pm, where we then head back to Brecon.

Robert knows this area well as he has been photographing the region for many years, often 'wild-camping' on the moors in order to be on site at dawn.

Upon arrival at our first location, Robert will begin by demonstrating on a scene, utilising foreground interest and using polarising and neutral density graduated filters. Such things as reading a histogram, iso sensitivity settings and the thought process behind the image will also be covered. He will go through in detail why he has chosen a specific lens and opted for that particular composition.

Robert will then invite each to look through the viewfinder and ask questions. From here you will spread out (but not too far) to seek out your own pictures. Robert will be close at hand and attend to each in turn.

Over the many years that Robert has been leading workshops he has mastered the ability to occasionally stand back and watch participants work rather than constantly looking over their shoulder. This allows Robert to see how you are working and will then approach if he sees you encountering a problem or of course if he is asked for advice. But be rest assured, Robert will be back, at intervals, to see how you are getting on, regardless.

Aside from sweeping vista's we will explore details in the landscape and capture fast flowing rivers, rapids and waterfalls. Robert will demonstrate how selecting just the right shutter speed can in one image, freeze all motion, and in another, render the water like cream.

In order for Robert to spend quality time with each person, numbers will be limited to a maximum of 6. Aside from making transportation to various locations much easier, it also makes for a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Plus, there is the added bonus that you won’t be jostling for the best positions!

The day is suitable for those of all levels and whether you have only recently picked up a camera or have been shooting for years, you are sure to find this an enjoyable and beneficial workshop. Robert will be on hand to give advice covering such things as exposure, use of filters and lens selection with an emphasis on creating images with strong visual impact.

Please note, a moderate fitness level is required. Although many locations will not be far from the vehicle, we shall be visiting waterfalls, some of which are only accessible over rocky, uneven terrain.

How to book

To receive a booking form please contact Robert here or alternatively click here to download one. To book your place Robert requires a £30 deposit which can be payable either by cheque or paypal. The latter will secure your place as soon as Robert receives the funds but will still require the completed booking form as soon as possible. This is a very useful method since should you be sending a cheque along with the form, it may take several days to arrive thereby delaying your booking. Full payment can also be made by this method.

Remaining balance can either be paid on the day or through paypal. If paying by paypal this will need to be settled at least 7 days before the workshop date. Robert will confirm receipt of this by email.

Once the booking form is received, Robert will email details to you regarding suggested equipment and meeting place.
